What About Honolulu's Municipal Golf Courses?
Oahu also has several City & County of Honolulu municipal golf courses, including Ala Wai, Ewa Villages, Pali, Ted Makalena, West Loch and Kahuku.
These courses can offer excellent value for Hawaii residents, but visitors need to understand the pricing structure.
The lowest municipal golf rates are intended for qualifying Hawaii residents with a resident golf ID. Visitors without a resident golf ID pay the nonresident rate.
That means the municipal course that looks extremely inexpensive when you see the local resident price may not be nearly as inexpensive for a visitor.
Once you compare the visitor rate and any additional cart charges, it's worth comparing that total against the discounted rates available at Oahu's semi-private and resort golf courses.
Don't choose a course based only on the advertised local resident rate. Compare the actual price you'll pay as a visitor.
Military Golf Courses on Oahu
Oahu also has golf courses located on military installations.
These can be excellent golf options for eligible golfers, but access restrictions apply. If you are active-duty military, retired military or otherwise have authorized military installation access, these courses may be worth considering.
For most civilian visitors staying in Honolulu or Waikiki, the public, semi-private and resort courses available through Hawaii Tee Times provide a much simpler option.
