Royal Kā‘anapali: Classic Maui Resort Golf

The Royal Kā‘anapali Course is the original course at the resort. Designed by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., the par-71 layout stretches to approximately 6,700 yards from the championship tees.

The course starts near sea level, works its way along the shoreline and eventually climbs toward the foothills of the West Maui Mountains.

Throughout the round, you'll find excellent views of the Pacific and the neighboring islands of Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

And Then There's the 5th Hole...

This is one of our favorite parts of playing Royal Kā‘anapali.

The 5th hole takes you right down toward world-famous Kā‘anapali Beach and Black Rock. You're not just getting an ocean view from somewhere in the distance — you're right there.

In fact, you're close enough that you could practically jump into the ocean for a quick dip before heading to the 6th tee.

Just don't tell the pro shop Hawaii Tee Times told you to do it.

Kā‘anapali Kai: Ocean Views With a Different Personality

The second course is the Kā‘anapali Kai, an 18-hole, par-70 layout measuring approximately 6,400 yards.

Kai is generally the more forgiving of the two courses, making it an excellent option for vacation golfers, couples and groups with different skill levels.

But don't mistake more forgiving for boring.

The course features undulating greens, natural canals, lava-rock features and plenty of strategic decisions. You'll also get sweeping views across the West Maui coastline, Pacific Ocean, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi.

If you're visiting during whale season, keep an eye on the ocean between shots — you may even spot humpback whales offshore.

Morning or Twilight Golf at Kā‘anapali

One of the advantages of playing Kā‘anapali is having different ways to fit golf into your Maui vacation.
