About Royal Kaanapali Golf Course
Royal Kaanapali Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-71 championship golf course located in the heart of Kaanapali on Maui's west coast. Designed by legendary architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course opened in 1962 and measures 6,700 yards from the championship tees.
One of only two golf courses in Hawaii designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Royal Kaanapali is celebrated for its championship layout, rich golfing history, and breathtaking coastal scenery.
The course begins near sea level with a challenging par-5 opening hole before following the beautiful Kaanapali coastline and gradually winding toward the foothills of the West Maui Mountains.
Gently rolling fairways, strategically positioned bunkers, natural water features, and large contoured greens create a memorable test of course management and shot-making.
Throughout the round, golfers are treated to spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the neighboring islands of Lanai and Molokai.
One of the course's most scenic holes is the par-4 fifth, which takes golfers toward Kaanapali Beach and the famous Black Rock area, providing an unforgettable oceanfront golf experience.
The par-4 18th is another signature hole, measuring approximately 449 yards from the championship tees. Running alongside a brackish-water canal, this demanding finishing hole is famous for both its beauty and difficulty.
Arnold Palmer famously described the 18th as one of the best and most challenging finishing holes he had ever played.
Royal Kaanapali has welcomed generations of golfers and remains one of Maui's most recognized championship golf experiences.
The facility also offers a driving range, practice putting and chipping greens, golf shop, rental clubs, professional instruction, and GPS-equipped golf carts.
